Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 17, 2026
Peek is a mobile application that helps users explore Wikipedia-based educational content. This Privacy Policy explains how Peek collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the app.
By using Peek, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Who this policy applies to
This Privacy Policy applies to the Peek mobile application and related in-app features.
2. Information we collect
Peek does not require account creation and does not ask users to provide direct identifiers such as name, email address, or phone number in order to use the app.
Depending on how you use the app, Peek may collect or process the following categories of information:
A. Device and app identifiers
- App install identifier generated by the app
- Device-linked identifier used by the app for app functionality, analytics, subscription state, abuse prevention, and quota tracking
- Advertising-related identifiers where supported by the device or SDKs
- App version, build number, platform, and basic device/app metadata
On Android, Peek may read a device identifier and convert it into a one-way hash before using it in app systems.
B. App activity and usage data
- App opens and session activity
- Interactions with onboarding, feed, saved items, likes, ads, paywall, refine actions, and similar in-app features
- Events related to purchases, restores, and subscription state
C. User-generated content
- Text you voluntarily submit through in-app suggestion or feedback features
Please do not submit sensitive personal information in free-form suggestion text.
D. In-app purchase and subscription data
- Subscription status
- Product identifiers
- Purchase and restore events
Peek itself does not collect your payment card number. Payments are handled by the applicable app store and subscription service providers.
E. Approximate location and network-related information
Some third-party service providers used by Peek may infer approximate location from IP address or similar network signals.
F. Content requests
When Peek requests content from third-party services such as Wikipedia, those services may receive technical request information such as IP address, device/browser metadata, and standard network logs.
3. How we use information
We use information for the following purposes:
- To provide core app functionality
- To load and personalize content based on app usage
- To support subscription and entitlement management
- To measure engagement and improve the app
- To display and measure ads in the free experience
- To enforce usage limits, reduce abuse, and maintain service integrity
- To review and respond to user suggestions and improve the product
- To monitor app configuration and service availability
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
4. Third parties and service providers
Peek uses third-party services that may process information on our behalf or as independent service providers. These may include:
- Google Firebase, including Firebase Analytics, Firestore, Firebase App Check, and Firebase AI
- Google Mobile Ads / AdMob
- RevenueCat
- Google Play Billing / Apple in-app purchase infrastructure, where applicable
- Wikipedia and related Wikimedia endpoints used to load content
These providers may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.
5. How data is shared
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share or make data available to service providers and partners as needed to operate Peek, including for:
- Analytics and app measurement
- Advertising and ad performance measurement
- Subscription and purchase processing
- Cloud data storage and app configuration
- AI-assisted topic expansion and related app features
Examples of data that may be transmitted off-device include device or app identifiers, analytics events, coarse location inferred by service providers, subscription-related events, app metadata, and user-submitted suggestion text.
6. Advertising
Peek may show ads in the free version of the app. Advertising partners may receive device or other identifiers and related technical data to serve, limit, measure, or improve ads, subject to their own policies and platform rules.
7. Data retention
We retain data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the app, maintain subscription state, analyze product usage, investigate abuse, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
Retention periods may vary by data type:
- Local cached content and settings may remain on your device until cleared or the app is removed
- Analytics, cloud records, and suggestion submissions may be retained until no longer needed for operational, product, legal, or security purposes
- Subscription-related records may be retained as required for billing, tax, fraud prevention, accounting, and compliance purposes
8. Your choices
Depending on your device, region, and applicable law, you may be able to:
- Limit ad tracking through device settings
- Control app permissions through device settings
- Stop using the app at any time
- Contact us to request deletion of suggestion submissions or other data we reasonably can identify and remove
Because Peek does not require traditional user accounts, some deletion or access requests may be limited by our ability to reliably associate a request with stored data.
9. Children
Peek does not require users to create an account or submit direct personal identifiers to browse content. If a user chooses to submit free-form text through a suggestion feature, they should avoid including personal information.
If you believe a child provided personal information through Peek in a way that should be removed, contact us and we will review the request.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. Data transmitted by the app is intended to be sent over encrypted connections in transit. However, no system can guarantee absolute security.
11. International processing
Third-party providers used by Peek may process information in countries other than your own. By using the app, you understand that information may be processed in locations where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or on the page where this policy is hosted.
